Brothers and Sisters,

We’ve been working around the clock to make sure that you and your families are safe and supported during the COVID-19 pandemic. All of us at Local 4 have been in close coordination with our industry partners to establish protocols for safely resuming construction activity.

Yesterday, Boston Mayor Walsh announced that limited construction projects will be allowed to re-open starting on Monday, May 18. The City will begin by allowing hospital projects, school and university projects, and roadwork to resume. It’s expected that all other construction activities in Boston will also begin re-opening during the week of May 25.

All sites will also be required to submit a COVID-19 Health and Safety Plan to the City for approval before work can resume. They will be required to follow this plan at all times.

This is an encouraging, well-vetted step forward. These have been difficult times and we’re eager to safely return to work. As we begin this transition, please know that the safety of you and your families remains our top priority.

If you return to work, please stay vigilant and follow all safety guidelines from the IUOE, OSHA, and the CDC. Always social distance on the job site, wash your hands regularly with soap and water, and make sure you are using the protective equipment necessary to prevent the spread of COVID-19. If you don’t feel well, please stay home.

If you have concerns about your health or safety, please reach out to your Business Representative immediately so we can address the situation. We’re available 24/7, and we always have your back.

Together, we’ll emerge from this stronger than ever.

In Solidarity,

Bill McLaughlin
