Brothers and Sisters,

After 45 years of service, General President James T. Callahan has announced his retirement from the International Union of Operating Engineers. He began his career as an operating engineer in 1980 and was elected to serve as the General President of IUOE in 2013. As a dedicated leader, General President Callahan facilitated record growth in membership for the IUOE during his tenure. His hard work and dedication have been invaluable to Union growth and retaining members across North America. Local 4 is grateful for GP Callahan’s long-time leadership. He has always been a friend and ally to our Union and we wish him a happy and healthy retirement.

The Local 4 team would also like to extend our sincerest congratulations to the newly appointed General President, John Downey! We offer our ongoing support as he continues to advance the International Union of Operating Engineers within North America.

Our team at Local 4 looks forward to the future and we stand together in times of change. We welcome new leadership and we will continue to advocate for the needs of our members day in and day out.

In Solidarity,

Michael J. Bowes
